After a wonderful Mother’s Day lunch of ham, potatoes, asparagus, parsnips and  hot-out-if-the-oven bread with a desert of angel food cake topped with fresh strawberries and whipped cream (can I get a *hallelujah* people?), it was off for our nature ride.

And Josh was our driver for this little excursion on Sunday.

Josh, Rick and Daisy went out to get the Gator and trailer to haul us around in.

There were going to be 5 of us going, so we couldn’t all fit in the back.  The trailer that they hooked up was low to the ground, and Roxy put the cushions from the patio furniture in it so we would have a comfy ride.

And no, I didn’t get pictures of it, but Roxy did.  Maybe she’ll share it with me. *hint*

Not much of a view from this angle.

Ah, much better.

I have to tell you, I was a little nervous going over this bridge.  There was only about a foot clearance on either side of the trailer, but Josh was an expert driver and kept a good eye on us the whole trip.

Love that kid!

What hunter wouldn’t be in heaven by having a deer stand in their own woods?

And close enough to home that they could hear the dinner bell ringing.

We used to have a bell like this, but Rick gave it away to one of the firefighters who helped put out the fire behind the house last fall.

OK, moving on.

Low bridge.

They’ve had some pretty good storms around their place the last couple of years that have toppled many trees.  At least they are set for firewood for many years to come!

Who needs a swimming pool when you have a pond that will do just fine?

Yep, I could totally see relaxing here during the summer.

This was a nice surprise to see.  Why?  Well, this willow came from a tree that we have at our house in Martell.  Many (like over 10) years ago, they took several branches from one of our trees and introduced them to their property.  Unfortunately, this little guy is the only one that took root and actually decided to stick around.

Now here are the critters I mentioned yesterday.  I have never see Sandhill Cranes up close and personal.  These things are huge!  Georgia was willing them to come closer to us, but they didn’t comply.

Actually, I’m not sure I would have liked them much closer, but it still would have been cool.

As we came back around toward the house, I was able to get a better view of all the rock gardens that Roxy has.

Dang, she puts my piddly rock garden to shame!  So many wonderful perennials that will soon be blossoming.

Just look at these gorgeous Hyacinths!  Heck, mine haven’t made it past the “peeking their noses out of the ground” stage yet.

*sigh*

Thank you Roxy, Bob & Josh for your hospitality during our short visit.  We’re hoping it won’t be another 10 years before we get down to your house again.  Actually, now that we know how long it takes to get there, I can guarantee that it won’t be.
