Rick’s always wondering what to do with the grandkids when they come over, and this time it was our Grandson Brayden who paid us a visit.

So being the good Grandpa he is, he thought it would be a good idea to take him to the gun club, you know, to urge that testosterone level up just a notch by shooting things.

But first, there has to be a gun safety lesson given by his step-dad, who has some great experience with this kind of thing.

And they started off small with a BB gun.

Yep, this boy was one happy camper.

Look at that stance and concentration.  He was a natural.

After some practice with that, it was time to go right for the power.

The Glock, which is owned by Erik.

Here’s where the reality of what a gun is comes about, and the safety lesson started all over again.

This machine was meant to kill, and Erik wanted to make sure that Brayden knew that, and how to prevent anyone from getting hurt (and no bullets were in the gun at the time, so I know I was breathing better because of that fact).

It was important for Brayden to know how to hold the gun and keep his finger off the trigger.

Stance was also really important so that it didn’t come back and slam him in the face when it fired.

When they went to the gun club, they found out that it was “sight-in day,” so they couldn’t do their target there.

That didn’t deter them.  They just found another spot, set up the target and let the bullets fly.

But instead of the BB gun, Brayden got to use Rick’s .22.

And the Glock.

Well, I’d say he did pretty good!

I can already see a bond being formed, can’t you?

I have a lot of Veteran’s in my life:  my dad, my sister, sister-in-law, friends, friends-of-my-kids-that-I-consider-friends.  They come in all shapes, sizes and ages.

Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines.  All branches have been served in my family.

And as I was contemplating today’s post, my eldest child came to my rescue (unknowingly by her) and dropped this in my virtual lap:

Taken circa 1999 (or 2000, neither one of us can remember), she was on her way to/coming home from Guards at Fort McCoy, WI (again, neither one of us can remember).  A few years later, she went full Army.

Whether I agree or not with the current state of military actions is irrelevant.  What is important is that I am honored by and grateful to the women and men who serve/have served in the military.

My husband summed it up perfectly a few years ago when speaking with some Veteran’s:  “I wish for the day when we no longer have a Veteran’s Day.  Because then there would be no more wars, only peace.”

So on this day, thank a Veteran for a job well done, and hold onto the hope that one day that peace will come.

Sometimes you just need the right amount of motivation.

Which in this instance is a severe case of writer’s block, which I’m not sure how I ended up with since I’m not a writer.

But anywho, that is what it took for me to putz around with the website: moving things here, hiding things there, and adding something new.

And what I added was an area to show the jewelry that I make.

See that little tab at the top called “Jewelry”?  Yep, that’s where it’s gonna start landing now.

I started making necklaces, bracelets and earrings when I owned my store years back, and offered them for sale.  When I took my current job at the college, all my boxes of stones and equipment just sat to the wayside, begging me to start up again.

So when I finally cleaned out the attic of the garage and organized everything I had, my creativity came rushing back.  Heck, some days I’m up there so long that Rick has to check on me to make sure I’m OK.

Let me know what you think.  I know I still need to work on my photography skills (gemstones are a real challenge!), but I’ll get better, I promise.

And if you see something you like, let me know.  Everything I make is very affordable, and since it’s made with quality products, you know you’re getting you’re money’s worth.

I have been a lover of antiques since forever.  Especially anything made out of wood.  To me, when something is made out of wood, it has quality to it.  Time was taken to produce it.

Antiques also have a story that goes with them.  Who used to own it?  What did they use it for?

It’s mysterious.

Such is the case with my birthday present I received from Nichole when they were up last time.

Now, I’m not sure that this qualifies as antique per se, but it definitely has some years on it.

She located this little gem at a garage sale this summer, and it had my name written all over it, because Nichole knows that I go for stuff like this.

She even gave it a lock and key so that I could hide my most treasured items in it.

Which will more than likely be some of my favorite stones that I have collected over the years or were give to me by others.

Wouldn’t they look wonderful nestled in that old velvet?

But what really intrigued both of us was the crest that was on the top of the chest.  What does it stand for?  After finally getting a clear look at it, I’m not sure that it has a meaning to it, but just the fact that it was placed there gives it an even higher ohmygawdthatscool factor.

And that alone is why I love it so much.
